MALEK Theatre

1996

With the rise of VHS tapes and movie rentals, the sales of theatre tickets were on the decline. HDTV was also introduced in 1996, which gave partons theatre quality viewing in their own homes. The late 80s and into the 90s saw many films going straight to video (VHS and eventually DVD) or cable with no cinematic theatrical release. And those that still went to the theatres, the timeframe for when that film was available for home viewing shrunk. All of this forced The Malek to close its doors for the final time.
